Message from our General Manager
Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Pointer Telocation newsletter for the 1st Quarter of 2009. ‎

As the world’s news headlines continue to be dominated by sour financial news, ‎companies more than ever are looking for numerous ways to reduce costs. This presents ‎a unique opportunity for providers of telematics products and services, to reach out to ‎struggling companies, wherever they may be located, with a clear message – that tracking ‎technology can save money while at the same time maximizing operational efficiency. ‎That the money that companies can invest should be delegated for securing top value, ‎which our industry can surely provide. We have seen a similar mindset among our ‎partners, and Cellocator will give full application support to such acts taken to reach out ‎to companies looking to reduce costs through tracking technology.‎

Keeping Track of Telematics Benefits
Some of Ways GPS Tracking Technology Can Be Used to Maximze Business Efficiency and Reduce Costs

With the current global financial crisis, companies large and small are looking for various ‎ways to cut costs. Almost all businesses use some form of transportation, whether it is a ‎company car for employees to use to get to appointments or a fleet of trucks to transport ‎products. Especially for large fleet managers, monitoring dozens, hundreds or thousands, ‎of trucks or other vehicles presents many challenges, fleet managers have to find methods ‎to best meet the challenge at hand, and GPS-based tracking technology, used for a variety ‎of functions in the industry, is a valuable tool.‎

What's New?
Garmin Integration

Garmin integration delivers high-end navigation and enhanced communication ‎capabilities between fleet managers and their drivers. Using the capabilities of the ‎Cellocator™ Compact Fleet unit, a control center can send a text message to the vehicle ‎with the integrated system relaying the message to the screen.

The communication features also allows for enhanced navigation assistance and control, ‎such as:

  • ‎Location and navigation capabilities  ‎
  • ‎Best route calculation for ‎drivers ‎
  • Real-time location of the fleets
  • Alerts the fleet manager when the vehicle has arrived at a requested stop.
  • Alerts the fleet manager when the driver has set off for the next destination.‎
  • The control center automatically updates the driver to his next task

All Compact devices support handshake communication with Garmin line of connected ‎PND, allowing the integration of high-end navigation & communication applications in ‎fleet-management systems.‎

Cellocator™ Handsfree ‎

The Cellocator™ Handsfree unit enables fleet management assistance representatives to ‎listen to a driver of a vehicle, as well as to what is happening inside the vehicular cabin ‎during times of distress, after the panic button has been activated.

Additionally, the unit ‎can serve as a voice communication device between the driver and the control ‎representative, eliminating the need for a hand-held mobile phone. The unit allows for ‎full duplex voice connectivity via microphone and speaker. The driver may initiate, ‎answer and disconnect calls via a service button, or alternatively, by pressing the panic ‎button.

There is also an auto answer mode, which enables the call to get through without ‎driver involvement – which serves as a useful tool in times of distress or as a safety ‎measure. The destination of the call is programmed with a predefined number (i.e. the ‎service center).

The Cellocator™ Handsfree unit also supports silent monitoring, in ‎which the caller can listen to the driver and what happens in the cabin but the speaker is ‎muted.‎

Firmware 28

The new version of the Compact firmware introduces many innovations and improvements.

A central new feature is the integration with Garmin's in-car satellite navigation systems. The integration allows for bi-directional, visual communication between a control center and the driver, with the driver receiving text messages and reacting to them. The integration also allows an application to introduce task management features. Drivers can be presented with a list of destinations to which they respond by acquiring a job and reporting termination.

In addition and among others, version 28 features the following:

  • On-board driver management. The unit manages a list of up to 30 authorized drivers.
  • Versatile geofences that warn drivers acoustically or optically when they enter a particular geographic area.
  • Tracking Garage Mode entry/exit events, go/halt events
  • Automatic GSM band sensing and GPRS authentication sensing.
  • Secure SIM cards.
  • Improved triggering mechanism for CAN-originated events.
  • Sophisticated LED patterns that provide additional visual cues.
  • Enhanced tracking that adapts the transmission frequency to the speed of vehicle.
  • Improved battery management.
  • Supporting of 2 analogue inputs according to the HW specifications.

Fuel Sensor

As fuel costs are rising globally, Pointer released a fuel-sensor that allows the ‎incorporation of fuel-monitoring services.

With our new fuel sensor fleet managers ‎are updated regularly on the fuel consumption of their vehicles.‎  The sensor is connected to the existing fuel level sensor of the vehicle. No need to drill ‎holes into the tank or do any mechanical work. Our fuel sensor works with all units that ‎have an analog input (Compact Fleet, Compact CAN, 370-50). ‎

The sensor converts the current reported by the ‎fuel-tank (to the fuel gauge in the dashboard) into the voltage span required by the ‎Compact's analog input.

Typical applications are theft prevention/detection, leaks ‎detection and refueling control.‎

Fuel Lid Sensor

The Magnetic sensor that detects the opening of the fuel tank lid. It also serves as a fuel lid ‎lock. The combination of magnetic detector and mechanical lock provides a very robust ‎fuel theft prevention and detection solution. ‎By using the fuel lid sensor you can detect when the fuel lid on a vehicle is open or closed.

Installation is easy and straight forward. The fuel lid sensor can be used with all ‎Cellocator units, including the CelloTrack.

Coming Up Soon
CelloTrack with Internal Charger

A new version of the asset tracker “CelloTrack” with an internal charge controller will be ‎available. The new device provides tracking solutions for assets that have an intermittent ‎power source available, like e. g. trailers and caravans.‎

With its large battery the CelloTrack will work during long periods without external ‎power, but takes advantage of the power for recharging once the asset is hooked to an ‎electricity supply, eliminating the need to remove and recharge the CelloTrack unit. The ‎built in low battery alarm function will alert the user, in order to avoid loosing track of ‎the asset. ‎

The unit's case is water and dustproof according to IP 67, and has 1 digital input, that ‎can be used to e. g. connect a burglar alarm, thus yielding a powerful asset protection ‎solution independent of external power.‎

Trailer ID
Never again hook up the wrong trailer! The nightmare scenario of every fleet manager is ‎to have a driver go off with the wrong trailer and then find out about it after that trailer ‎has gone hundreds of kilometers down the road.‎

Cellocator Trailer ID will instantaneously tell the fleet manager when and which trailer is ‎hooked up to the truck.

Cellocator Plus

Cellocator Plus is a web based application allowing Cellocator customers to manage their ‎units. It is a service provided by Cellocator.

Notably the service supports:‎

  • Grouping of devices
  • Firmware upgrade for groups of devices either in real time or scheduled (batch)
  • Configuration of groups of devices either in real time or scheduled (batch)
  • ‎Report creation for device status, device information, configuration activity ‎firmware upgrade activity

Customers need not installing any extra software or hardware. All management activities ‎are carried out via the web using a regular web browser software. ‎
